ShelfRock Crawler — Tires & Wheels

In my words

Maxxis Trepador 1.9" G8 Rock Terrain Truck Tires 2 for Front or is a Rock Crawler tire first and a conversation starter second — the track is wet rock, rebar and off-camber ledges where a sticky carcass is everything.

The set is 1.9" in G8, fitted front. Rubber ages on the shelf as well as on the track, so I run sets rather than hoard them.

I link straight to the listing so the price you see is the price it sells for today.

Questions I get about this set

Which insert goes in?

Inserts are not included with this listing, so budget for a set. A closed-cell insert holds shape under load; an open-cell one lets the carcass work. Heavy cars and high-bite tracks want the firmer option.

How long will a set last?

On dirt I get a full race day from a soft compound and two or three from a medium. Carpet and astro are gentler on rubber and harder on pins.

They look, and perform great.

I swear by proline. I hate cheap knockoffs. At the end of the day proline has literally designed their products FOR these cars. Other companies just copy their designs and use a generic crummy rubber material.

Quality, durability, and amazing grip.

Pro tip, use simple green on them after every run to keep them nice and sticky for rock crawling!

Performs As Good As They Look

Needed a tire bigger than the standard 4.75" for a 3D printed Jeep body I finished. Originally I planned on running a smaller 2.2 before coming across these. I've ran old Axial Treps back in the day and they really weren't anything to write home about. But these Proline Treps are amazing! I was beyond impressed at their performance right out of the packs. Most notably was how well they worked brand new in wet condition.

Terrific Treps

Really good 10th scale looking tire, good rubber quality though G8 versus Predator of Proline Racing, so it's 'stiffer' (lesser flex or fold). It can be conditioned (softened) by coating with WD40 oil but will never be Predator-like compound. It is bigger than the norm 4.75" diameter, I believe listed as 4.9", which is real good for trailing, or offsets the height disadvantage when using straight axles.

I will be using these mostly for my Axial Capra pictured here on portal axles, paired with 2.2 wheels with brass rings, yes it can fit into 2.2s with a bit more work involved. But if fitting with 1.9s, it'll be hassle-free and Proline tires usually have good bead fittings into almost any wheels. These are also directional tires with a decent sidewall bite. They'll be more awesome if vented, which I didn't do (yet). Again, one of the best-looking tires floating around in the RC hobby world currently.
