In my words

A body is the cheapest way to change how a car looks and lands, and 323863 Volkswagen Full Fender Baja Bug Body for Slash 2WD and proves it.

Thickness is a trade: a thin shell is quick and fragile, a thick one takes hits and carries mass up high.

Questions I get about this set

Which paint works on this?

Only polycarbonate-safe color. Enamel and lacquer attack the plastic and craze it within days, even when the finish looks fine on the night you spray it.

Can I run it without a wing?

You can, and the car will understeer less and rotate more. On anything above half scale I would rather keep the wing and move it than take it off.

Badazz Baja Bug Body

Overall this lexan body by Pro-Line is a great fit for the Traxxas Slash XL-5. The mounting hole dimples are in the exact places, so no additional mounting parts are necessary. Trimming excess plastic took 70% of the time while painting only took 30%. Be sure to remove the side nerf bars off your Slash first to get an idea of what needs to be trimmed. Likewise, more or less of the wheel well fender trimming depends on your tire/wheel size and how much action/distance of your suspension.

In addition, depending on how picky you are - have a sharp drill bit (for mounting holes), little scissors for cutting off excess curved pieces, various grit sand paper to smooth off rough/sharp edges and of course patience. The shell does come with a protective exterior peel off layer so not to worry about over spray when painting.

I've seen some people remove the rear beefy bumper to improve the overall "look", but since I'm not the best driver, I opted to play it safe and leave it on.

The Slash Baja Bug looks good in the pictures since I have yet to play. However, the lexan seems to be a similar thickness to the OEM truck body which has taken quit a bit of hard landings and is still in one piece (mostly).

Time will tell if this lasts, but as far as fit, finish, looks, window tape and assorted decals it's a winner in my book :)

Sturdy and detailed!

Sturdy and detailed. I like that it comes covered in a film to protect it during your painting process. Goes from a satin finish to a gloss finish. One thing to keep in mind is if your paint in a flat color on the inside of the shell, it will still come out glossy because of the shine of the shell. This black beetle is flat black.

Unique Body, will set you apart—just mount it correctly.

I bought this body shell so that I would have something a little different than the typical truck or buggy. It is a great looking body, but I don't think it fit perfectly on my chassis. It might have been a matter of my supports being too high, I'm not sure. Also, it seemed to make my Traxxas Slash a little front-heavy at high speeds, but, again, perhaps I did not mount it correctly.

I do like the overall design, though, and it looked pretty good despite my lack of painting skills. I just went with solid orange. Oh, and I would have liked a diagram of where the decals were supposed to be placed, as it was not intuitive.

Nice Baja beetle

This body fits a slash 2wd very nicely with a set of body mounts. Seems durable enough for off road use. Looks great.
